Partner Special Needs Training Series, Basic Trainings 

introduce how to work with families with very young children with known or suspected special needs. They cover parental grief, effective listening, talking with parents, natural supports, inclusion, resiliency, PHP services, as well as the Early Start, Prevention Resource and Referral Services program and IFSP/Transition to IEP.  

 

The Learning Disability Simulation

in which participants experience what it feels like to struggle/feel different, concludes each two-session series. This series is intended for FIRST 5 partners such as home visitors, child care and preschool providers, FRC staff and other community professionals.

 

Partner Special Needs Training Series, Intermediate Trainings 

provide more depth in how to work with families, especially in terms of supporting parents who are resistant to hearing and/or accepting their child’s challenges, and additional knowledge in areas helpful to the FIRST 5 partner in his/her work with very young children and their families.

 
Special Topics in Special Needs (STSN) Trainings 

Workshops are targeted to meet the needs of FIRST 5 therapeutic service providers working with children 0 through 5 years of age. The intermediate/advanced disability-specific training event is also open to other professionals as well as parents. All classes are from 9:00-noon.              

 

Notice of these events is circulated through FIRST 5 channels and posted to the PHP events calendar. Pre-registration is required. Certificates of attendance are issued to professionals at the end of each series indicating hours earned against the Infant-Family Early Childhood Mental Health Guidelines.
