Workshops
PHP provides workshops and 1:1 assistance in accessing public benefits such as In Home Supportive Services, Supplemental Security Income, and Medi-Cal. Due to limited staffing, we strongly urge you attend a workshop prior to requesting a consultation.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
This training prepares parents and other caregivers to apply for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and increase the likelihood of a first-time approval by providing attendees with the knowledge of steps to take to prepare for this important process.
Participants will learn through lecture, discussion, writing, practice and dialogue.
Regional Center Clients who wish to have this service funded by the regional center, a purchase of services must be obtained prior to attending any of the workshops by contacting their child's service coordinator.
PHP staff members avail themselves for phone support on these topics. We provide basic information on the application processes. For more in-depth information, you will be directed to one of the scheduled workshops.

To Request Regional Center Funding For This Service Contact Your Child’s Service Coordinator well in advance of attending this class.
In Home Supportive Services (IHSS)
Eligibility for IHSS is only available to those with Medi-Cal, including through the Medicaid Waiver available from Regional Centers called Institutional Deeming. Your child may be living at home with you or in their own home to be eligible for this service. You might even be paid as the provider of their services. They may not be living in a group home. If you are considering Supported Living, this service must be tapped if eligible before hours are awarded for supported living.
If your child already receives IHSS—is she/he receiving all the hours to which she/he is entitled and necessary? Services provided are based on needs, and may include:
-
domestic services (vacuuming, dusting, etc.)
-
related services (meal preparation, shopping, running errands, etc.)
-
non-medical personal care services (bowel and bladder care, grooming, bathing, etc.)
-
transportation
-
yard hazard abatement
-
protective supervision
